alt.binaries.games.xbox360 does not exist on this server
« on: 21 November 2009, 11:43:19 »
I've been using Grabit for some time now, successfully downloading things from the same place for ages, and the other day it has stopped working properly - every time I try and download something it says "alt.binaries.games.xbox360 does not exist on tihs server" I can't understand this at all as ut does still exist, but why isn't it working anymore? :(

GrabIt says it doesn;t exist, you say it does... Who to believe. :) Anyway try downloading with another program, sort of a second opinion. ;)

well it def does exist because when you look for it manually through the program, alt.binaries.games.xbox360 is in the listing! So it's clearly there! I checked on Newzbin too...stuff is being posted there, you can't post something to an area that doesn't exist after all!

Well, the group may exist in itself, but you can only use it when the server you are downloading from does support the group as well.

that's what I mean, Grabit does support it, I've been using it for over a year now, downloading from same place, and it's been fine, until just recently, I can look manually through grabit to the gignews server and within the giganews server it lists abgxbox360, but when I use bin search to download the nzb which opens it in grabit, it says it doesn't exist. :(

Maybe I'm the only person having this problem then

Did you try an other newsreader to make sure there's not a problem with Grabit itself, or the way Grabit asks for a group-change? Maybe Giganews changed its protocol...

I tried newsbin yesterday which worked although it required a password for the rar I'd downloaded, that I supposedly had to get from this other site and the link didn't work. Grabit never did that. I think newsbin is one you pay for? I'm not very familiar with the world of nzbs, are there any good free downloaders like grabit you can recommend?

Trouble is, I was shown how to use the whole grabit / binsearch stuff, and have learnt that way, so looks like I might have to go and learn something else so I'm not familiar with this technology area.

If you limit yourself to nzb's, sabnzbd+ is a good one, I hear. As for the password protected download, that is not because of newsbin. The person who posted the files put the password in the rar. You would have had the same problem in any other newsreader.

If you can download the same file with newsbin and not with Grabit it seems to be a problem related to Grabit.

Sorry for kicking up this thread but I had the same problem today. Since this topic is one of the first hits I got on Google it might be helpfull to add a solution to this problem.

Unchecking the "Change active group before downloading article" setting in the server settings did the trick for me.
